Evolve hatches Gorgon today; new Hunter adaptations incoming

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

It may have been easy to miss with this week's new releases, but today sees the arrival of Evolve: Ultimate Edition. This iteration of the monster-hunting game features everything in the base game, along with everything in the game's Monster Expansion Pack and two Season Passes. And yes, that includes another new monster being released today.

Gorgon was first unveiled late last week. Less durable than her larger brethren, Gorgon makes up for her lack of size through ranged attacks that deal damage over time. Her attacks include:

  • Acid Spit - An acid spray that can double as a projectile and as an environmental hazard. If acid doesn't go in the opponent's face, it should be sprayed on the ground to restrict a Hunter team's movement.
  • Web Snare - Hunters caught with this attack will suffer damage and also be slowed, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
  • Spider Trap - A powerful ranged attack that can snatch up Hunters and slowly digest them.
  • Mimic - This is the most sinister tool at Gorgon's disposal. Gorgon can shed her skin and remotely control the molted remains to cause melee damage. She can also kamikaze the shed skin by detonating it atop a group of Hunters.

Today's news isn't all about the monsters, though. Markov and Val will be getting some new variants that slightly change up their play styles. Blitz Markov deals heavier damage over time at the expense of damage reliability, while Rogue Val gets a short-range passive healing field at the expense of her overall healing range. Her Sniper Rifle also comes with more rounds, but can no longer inflict weak spots. Unlike Gorgon, these Hunter variants will be free of charge as part of the game's latest title update, which is coming soon.

The full patch notes can be found on the Evolve website. For more on Gorgon, be sure to check out the video below.
