Games top first 4th generation Apple TV free and paid download charts

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Apple recently launched its newest generation of Apple TV hardware. While it includes its usual TV and gallery-related functions, Apple went into this iteration of the device with the goal of also introducing gaming. With a week having passed since its release, it appears that gaming is doing exceptionally well on Apple TV, with a number of notable games at the top of the download charts, including games like Ubisoft's Rayman Adventures, Crossy Road, Disney Infinity, and Harmonix's Apple TV-exclusive, Beat Sports.

Apple TV launched without a top app lists, so the following data was compiled by the folks at Slide to Play. These are the top downloads for Apple TV so far, with games indicated in bold:

Top Paid

  • 1. Beat Sports (Harmonix Music Systems)
  • 2. SimpleX - for Plex
  • 3. Galaxy on Fire (Fishlabs)
  • 4. Lumino City (State of Play Games)
  • 5. Alto's Adventure (Snowman)
  • 6. Does not Commute TV (Mediocre AB)
  • 7. Battle Supremacy: Evolution (Atypical Games)
  • 8. Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved (Activision)
  • 9. Shoot the Zombirds (Infinite Dreams Inc.)
  • 10. Oceanhorn (FDG Mobile Games GbR)

Top Free

  • 1. Rayman Adventures (Ubisoft)
  • 2. Crossy Road - Endless Arcade Hoppper (Hipster Whale)
  • 3. HBO Now (HBO)
  • 4. The Nat Geo TV (National Geographic Society)
  • 5. FOX NOW (FOX Broadcasting Company)
  • 6. SHOWTIME (Showtime Networks Inc.)
  • 7. HISTORY (A&E Television Networks Mobile)
  • 8. CNNgo (CNN Interactive Group, Inc.)
  • 9. CBS (CBS Interactive)
  • 10. Asphalt 8: Airborne (Gameloft)

Diving further into the free charts starts to play out as one would expect, with standard apps like Netflix, Hulu, and WatchESPN taking their place. But for Rayman Adventures and Crossy Road to beat out such notable names is definitely cool for the gaming world. Look for more official charts in the future once Apple TV gets them rolling in tvOS.
