11.22.63: "Other Voices, Other Rooms" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow.

Coming off a tense but ultimately fillery episode, this week's 11.22.63 got back to the meat of the story and introduced a host of new characters. While Bill made his first appearance last week, his status was bumped up to "sidekick" in "Other Voices, Other Rooms" as he joined Jake in his effort to stop JFK from being assassinated. On the one hand, it was nice having someone for Jake to bounce his thoughts off of and keep the viewer in the loop so that he didn't have to talk to himself or flashback to Al over and over. On the other hand, Bill himself was pretty frustrating as a character and didn't have much chemistry with Jake once they became allies.

Better Call Saul: "Amarillo" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Full spoilers for Better Call Saul continue below.

"You and I both know you can do this job. But please, you just have to do it right."

This is the key issue at the heart of "Amarillo," the third episode of Better Call Saul: Season 2 that sees Kim (Rhea Seehorn) not taking lightly to Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) bending the rules to get a win. Jimmy is a person who cuts corners for his own success; he's not afraid to think outside the box to get things done, and when challenged to find a way to make something happen, he usually can. It's just not always the right way.

We see that happen twice in this episode: first, when he solicits people at a senior home on their bus to get their business at Davis & Main, and again when he discards Cliff's (Ed Begley, Jr.) approved ad for a more salacious commercial that he directed. Both times Jimmy's decision gets better feedback and more people for their case, but both times it ultimately backfires.

What Did You Think of Tonight's Supergirl?

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Superhero television has a commendable tradition of using actors from previous interpretations as guest stars in the latest iterations, and this week's Supergirl is no different. This time, it's Smallville's Laura Vandervoort that makes a return to the Super-verse as DC Comics' Indigo, a supervillain that can travel through the Internet.

Stay tuned for our full review of "Solitude," but get the conversation started in the comments.

Gotham: "Mr. Freeze" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

Exit Theo, Jerome, and Barbara (for now) and enter Victor Fries and Hugo Strange. For the second half of Gotham's second season - titled "Wrath of the Villains."

Oh, sure Tabitha's still around. And Butch. And they've been paired up. He's now the de facto leader of the underworld, drillin' folks with his drill hand just for kicks. And she's looking to partner up again. Using the days she spent torturing him as her psychological foot in the door. Well, that and planting that kiss on him. By the way, Butch has been irreparably tortured and brainwashed twice now, right?

But that's not the headline here. Gotham's all about Mr. Freeze and Hugo Strange now. With my excitement leaning way more into B.D. Wong's Strange than in Nathan Darrow's Freeze. Mostly because Strange has never been portrayed in person before. He's been a big part of animated shows and video games, but Wong's the first actor to play him. And yes, it's odd (almost used "strange") to see Strange on a show like Gotham because of how much we associate him with a boner-fied Batman obsession. Because of his role in the Prey storyline from the comics. But here he is without Batman. As head of Arkham. Ready to coldly inflict his "cures" on the mentally ill. Which, for Penguin surely means a lot of drugs and abuse.

PSA: Celebi is now available for Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire for a limited time

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

As Pokemon continues celebrating its 20th anniversary, the news of the weekend was the release of the original Pokemon games: Red, Blue, and Yellow. But the current generation of Pokemon games are still going strong and to continue the anniversary celebration, Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire owners can pick up the mythical Pokemon Celebi right now.

For those that aren't familiar, Celebi is the legendary Grass/Psychic-type Pokemon of the Gold/Silver generation, normally obtainable only via special circumstances. The 20th anniversary would seem to fit that bill, so anyone looking to pick it up should boot up their copy of X, Y, Omega Ruby, or Alpha Sapphire and open up the Mystery Gift menu. Opt to connect via Internet and download your Celebi. It'll be waiting at the nearest Pokemon Center. No word on how long Celebi will be available, but don't expect it to be around forever. Thanks to Serebii.net for the heads-up.

This giveaway comes weeks after Mew made its way into GameStop. There's a whole new Pokemon generation coming later this year with Sun and Moon, so stay tuned to see if anymore mythical Pokemon come out of the woodwork prior to their arrival.

Bravely Second: End Layer Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

A doggedly traditional Japanese RPG in many respects, Bravely Second: End Layer is almost exactly as they used to make them in the old days. If you're of the mind that publisher Square Enix hit its peak during the 90s with the likes of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, then this is very much aimed at you. However, Bravely Second’s charming sense of nostalgia can’t fully make up for its failings. Whilst its turn-based battles are still engaging, and its art just as visually arresting, it tells a ridiculous and often patronizing story with lifeless, even frequently irritating voice work. It’s a game that swings from providing great joy to deep disappointment without any warning and, as such, falls short of the bar set by Bravely Default.

Zootopia Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Set in a world where animals have evolved and now live much as we do -- yes, we get a little bit of backstory on this alternate universe -- Disney’s 55th animated film, Zootopia, centers on Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin), a small town rabbit with dreams of being a police officer, who moves to the city that gives the film its title. While Judy is indeed successful in becoming a cop, notably the first ever rabbit to do so, she’s still overlooked by everyone, including Police Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) and assigned to parking duty.

However, when Judy takes it upon herself to begin investigating the latest in a series of local disappearances, she enlists the help (whether he likes it or not) of Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), a con artist fox she’d previously encountered. With her job on the line, the two begin to discover the disappearances in Zootopia are tied into a conspiracy and a cover-up involving some disturbing occurrences among the locals…

Sony Is Shutting Down The PSP Online Store

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

It looks like the PSP's finally entering its final stretch of life, as unfortunate as that is.

Sony has officially announced that the PlayStation Store for PSP will be shuttered on March 31 for the SCEA region. It's already been taken down in Europe as of 2014.

But don't worry about the content you've already paid for and downloaded. You'll still be able to access it, as well as make in-game purchases. You just won't be able to access the PlayStation Store.

As of right now, Sony hasn't given an explanation as to why this decision has been made, but it likely has to do with the eventual shuttering that'll probably happen with the handheld.

The PlayStation TV Is No Longer Being Distributed

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Goodbye, PlayStation TV. We hardly knew ye.

It looks like the product is slowly being phased out in the US, Europe, and Japan, with Sony ceasing shipment of PlayStation TVs at the end of February 2016. That's today, of course, leap day and all. It's kind of upsetting and I'm not sure how to feel about it. There's definitely some sadness involved. I hate seeing products go away.

Sony has made claims that both PS4 and Vita sales have done so well that there's just no need for the microconsole, but it's still a little bittersweet to the see the box being discontinued after 2 short years of circulation.

Did anyone purchase a PlayStation TV here? How'd you like it? I'm interested in securing one for myself before they inevitably go away now, if only for the nostalgia factor years from now. I like having those types of doodads around in my collection, even if

Final Score: Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Between street fighting for supremacy, hunting and gathering in the Stone Age, and catching 'em all like it's 1996, it's been a little too easy to forget that the fight between the undead and the shrubbery is raging strong. Last week, EA released Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 and now that it's had a week out in front of public servers, Shacknews is compiling some of the best reviews from across the online space to see what they had to say about this battle of the ages, but the consensus appears to be that it's a step above the original in every way.

Shacknews 7/10: "Maybe the same solid foundation with more robust content is all Garden Warfare 2 needs to be. The package feels more whole and satisfying, and while that may dampen my thoughts on the first game a bit, it's really only by comparison to this one. If Garden Warfare was the seed, this sequel is the harvest."

The Jimquisition 9.5/10: "Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is a masterclass in sequel creation, an example of what happens when you listen to criticism and strive to create a fun game more than an addictive business model, something people want to spend time and money on as opposed to something they feel compelled to do. Fast becoming my favorite online shooter of choice, Garden Warfare 2 is lovable, preposterous, and completely rampageous. Never thought I'd say this about an EA game, but it's everything a modern premium experience should be."

Giant Bomb 4/5: "With its less-than-full-price and short list of features, the first Garden Warfare felt like EA wasn't willing to risk much on the odd idea of turning a cutesy mobile free-to-play tower defense game into a console online shooter. It feels like a little piece of cosmic justice that while the Medal of Honor reboot failed to make any inroads with that audience, Garden Warfare somehow became a runaway success that warranted a full-priced, fully featured sequel. While a potential third Garden Warfare will need to do more than simply pile on additional plants and modes to justify itself, this quirky shooter's second installment ought to stay green for a good long while to come."

Gamespot 7/10: "With more generous pacing and worthwhile single-player content, Garden Warfare 2 would have been a truly outstanding game, but even without those things, it's a robust shooter with an astounding level of mechanical diversity that all but guarantees you'll encounter something new every round you play. And of course, its endearingly ridiculous presentation remains true to the series roots, further proving shooters don't have to be gray and gritty to offer a rewarding experience."

Polygon 8/10: "If Garden Warfare was an attempt to make a multiplayer-only shooter that just about anyone could enjoy, Garden Warfare 2 takes that a step further by removing the original's budget-priced compromises. Making the original PopCap concept into a shooter isn't novel anymore, and I hope that the developers pay attention to the game's potential balance challenges over time to make sure that 'asymmetric' doesn't become 'lopsided.' But Garden Warfare 2 stands strong on its own, and with friends."

EGM 7.5/10: "It might be easy to write off Garden Warfare 2 as a kid-friendly alternative to the more violent shooters out there, but you’d be passing up a unique class-based shooter in the process. I don’t see any Pop-Tart fires being caused by Garden Warfare 2, and I definitely won’t be dipping out of work to play it, but I can see myself returning to the lands of Zomburbia in the future."

These Are The HoloLens Games You've Been Looking For

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Ready to get your hands on the first games rolling out with the $3,000 HoloLens Development Edition on February 29 ahead of its March 30 launch? You can expect to see a wide breadth of titles to try out if you want to shell out those big bucks.

According to Microsoft corporate vice president Kuno Tsunoda, Young Conker, RoboRaid (shown at E3 as Project X-Ray) and Fragments will be coming with HoloLens itself. Fragments may well be the game you've heard the least about, but it sounds intriguing, as a crime drama that you need to interact with characters to piece together the clues that will eventually help solve a crime. It will even feature characters that can "sit" on the couch with players, allowing them to talk directly to the characters. If that doesn't sound next-level, I don't know what does.

Young Conker is exactly what it sounds like: Microsoft's squirrel mascot by way of Rare exploring platforming, but with a twist. The game's meant to alter the environments you control Conker in depending on where you are. If you choose to play in the living room and then take it to the bedroom for some gaming before bed, you could end up seeing two completely different types of gameplay.

Lastly, RoboRaid is actually Project X-Ray, which you may have played at E3 last year if you were in attendance. It's a first-person shooter that finds aliens invading your living room. You've got to shoot them down with the special Clicker, as the game implements spatial sound to direct you where to shoot next as the walls around you crumble down.

I'm not going to have $3,000 to pick up a HoloLens, but the sound of these games has me especially interested, even more so than what I've seen with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. I'd love to get my hands on any of it and give it a spin. Hopefully there are more engaging concepts coming down the line for the emerging tech, because I'd like to see them.

Street Fighter 5's Hot Ryu acting like Laura & R. Mika is Internet gold

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

One of the benefits of Street Fighter 5S being available on PC is the fact that modders can go in and change how the game functions, performs, and even how it looks. In this case, one modder decided to inject Hot Ryu into both Laura’s and R. Mika’s movesets, and the outcome is pure Internet gold.

Now -- this isn’t just a regular, old Ryu performing these moves. It’s Hot Ryu, which the Internet has gone gaga over ever since he was first introduced. That means while his moves may seem funny to most, there are some of you out there who will absolutely swoon over his performance.

The video below shows Hot Ryu performing the intro of both Laura and R. Mika, their Critical Arts, and R. Mika’s winning animation. While Laura’s intro is hilarious to see Hot Ryu perform, R. Mika’s Critical Arts and winning animations are the absolute best.

And for your convenience, the creator of the video created some GIFs of it in action:

Rock Band 4 shreds with March update tomorrow

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Even in the face of bad financial news with publisher Mad Catz, Harmonix is not stopping the rock. The next monthly update for Rock Band 4 is set to deploy tomorrow without any delay, but in terms of features, it doesn't seem to offer a whole lot this time around. But it does have something that will make Career mode players happy.

Starting with the March update, Career Mode scores will now upload to the Rock Band 4 leaderboards. That means users can make some headway in their band's path to greatness, while also showing the world what they're capable of at the same time. The update will toss in a few new cosmetic items and some stability updates.

The March update means the Rock Band 4 DLC train will take a break for a week, but there are still more new DLC tracks on the way. Rock Band 4 owners can look forward to tracks from 5 Seconds of Summer, Carrie Underwood, The Cranberries, Fall Out Boy, Luke Bryan, Neon Trees, One Direction, and Sam Hunt over the next month, starting on March 8.

Conker's Bad Fur Day prequel 'Young Conker' revealed for Microsoft HoloLens

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Microsoft has announced Young Conker for its HoloLens device.

Young Conker is a new game that will only be available on the Microsoft HoloLens. The title will have players guiding a younger version of Conker through the real world. Conker will be able to interact with your surroundings as he’ll be able to bounce on your couch, climb up onto your coffee table, and fight the evil Tediz wherever he goes.

Young Conker allows players to play the same level across different rooms, which would offer a completely unique experience every time. We’re sure it’ll only be a matter of time until someone takes the game into the bathroom to see what kind of hijinks Conker can get himself into there.

We learned about Young Conker earlier this month as a leak on the Windows 10 Store was discovered. Not only was Young Conker leaked, but another game called "Fragments" and an app called "HoloStudio" were also revealed.

Microsoft has yet to reveal a release date of when we can expect Young Conker to be available on its HoloLens.

The Venture Bros.: "Tanks for Nuthin'" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

The Venture Bros. has stayed unusually laser-focused this season. Rather than bouncing from one group of characters to the next and slowly building up an overarching conflict, the show is keeping all its attention on Dr. Venture's new corporate empire, Monarch's surprisingly successful new career as a superhero and the Guild's inability to keep both men in line. This more focused approach does have its disadvantages, but it's hard to deny that this season has been one of the most consistently entertaining.

The Monarch and Henchman 21 are quickly becoming the MVPs of the season as they continue their transition from failed archvillains to unwittingly competent vigilantes. The Monarch never seems to succeed on purpose. He dealt a crippling blow to the Venture family when he accidentally crashed the Cocoon on the Venture Compound, and now he's systematically wiping out all his competition completely by accident. This episode cemented his status as the linchpin of the entire season. Thanks to an ongoing comedy of errors and an endless series of coincidences, now everyone believes Dr. Venture is secretly Blue Morpho. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch isn't happy about that, and neither will her colleagues. It's easy to see where the conflict is headed these next few weeks, though no doubt Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick will find ways to escalate matters to even crazier extremes.

Uncharted 4 open beta date possibly leaked

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End multiplayer beta took place late last year, although it was only open to those who purchased Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. If you were unable to participate in the previous beta, you might be able to participate in a new open beta that’s expected to run this weekend.

Neither Sony or Naughty Dog have made any official announcements regarding the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Open Weekend, but a listing has popped up on the European PlayStation Network. The listing, which has since been removed, mentions the open beta will run from March 4 17:00 GMT (9am PT / 12pm ET) and will finish on March 6.

The listing says we should expect to participate in team deathmatch across three maps, all of which are based on locations found in the single-player campaign.

HTC Vive pre-orders are now live

Pre-orders for the HTC Vive are now live on its official website, but be sure you have the $800 you’ll need to place your pre-order. While the price may seem a bit high, we think it’s actually priced appropriately for what’s offered.

HTC offered some new details regarding the Vive just last week during Mobile World Congress. It revealed the headset would allow the wearer to communicate with the outside world by syncing to their phone, allowing them to respond to both incoming and missed phone calls, receive text messages, and more.

The headset also includes a number of improved features first introduced in the Vive Pre. This includes updated wireless controllers with haptic feedback and dual-stage triggers, a front-facing camera, a redesigned headstrap, and an improved visual system.

The HTC Vive is scheduled to release in early April 2016.

Titanfall 2 release date announcement may be imminent according to GameStop

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

While we know Titanfall 2 will be a multiplatform game and will include a single-player campaign, we still don’t know when it’s launching. But one GameStop store may hint at its upcoming release date announcement.

A NeoGAF user spotted placeholder boxes for Titanfall 2 at his local GameStop location. The placeholder boxes simply have a black background with the game’s title on it and, for some strange reason, are sitting in the PlayStation 3 section of the store.

Real estate is extremely precious at GameStop stores as it can only fit so many games within its locations. This leads us to believe a release date announcement is imminent, which would cause GameStop customers to start pre-ordering Titanfall 2 now that these placeholder boxes are available.

We’ve reached out to EA and Respawn Entertainment for comment and will update our story once we receive a response.

Where to Find Rare Feathers in Far Cry Primal

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Tired of running out of arrows so fast? Looking to upgrade Takkar's quiver so you can shoot more baddies with arrows before having to make a trip to the Reward Stash back at your camp? This guide will teach you the quickest and easiest way to find rare feathers so you can get back to taking down Udam and Izila outposts throughout Oros.

Rare feathers are a bit tricky to obtain, as they are only available one of two ways. The first way is to kill an eagle. This is the toughest way, as it requires precise aim and timing in order to accomplish.

The second way to guarantee rare feathers so that you can upgrade your quiver is to complete Wogah's quest to find rare feathers at the top of a large cliff. You'll need to upgrade Wogah's hut twice before thie quest unlocks, which means you'll need to be a little ways into the game. Once you've received the quest make your way north out of the main Wenja village and follow the lake until you reach the dead end where the quest marker rests. Now use the Grappling Claw to climb your way to the tip top of the area and collect the rare feathers from all three eagle nests as you climb. This will reward you with enough rare feathers to unlock your quiver upgrade, as well as allow you to find rare feathers on other birds throughout Oros.

Find and collect all the Hunter Cache's with our complete guide to all Hunter Cache locations and solutions. You can also learn more about how to tame animals in Far Cry Primal.

The Walking Dead: "Knots Untie" Review

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

Thanks to a time jump, last week's Walking Dead opened up the show to new adventures, a brand new kung fu vagrant, and a new romance. This week's installment - "Knots Untie" - pushed the show into even newer territory, refusing to rest on its laurels. And I'm liking the quickened pace of this season's back half.

Rick, and most of the series regulars, left Alexandria to head over to Jesus' compound - a walled, wooded refuge called Hilltop. A place, we'd discover, is the main food provider for a network of communities that have entered into a trading pact. A place that's a little more Colonial Williamsburg than Rick's suburban slice of tract housing.

Vinyl: "Whispered Secrets" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

Richie Finestra's manic coke-fueled hustle continued this week in "Whispered Secrets," as the floundering exec made cuts to his label's catalogue, fretted and sweated over his participation in the murder of Frank "Buck" Rogers (whose body was discovered by the end), and agued with Devon about his decision to reject the buyout offer.

The show has very clearly set up The Nasty Bits as the "fresh" act that Richie will think can save his company, so a lot of these first three episodes have been a bit of a waiting game. For Richie to finally hear them play their actual sound and realize that it could be a punk goldmine. Of course, also set up is the heroin addition of James Jagger's frontman Kip. So any success on this front will mostly likely be short-lived. It's all a time bomb, basically. And a loud, raucous attempt at plate-spinning. Which can be exhausting.

Black Sails: "XXIV" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

As we officially enter the back half of Season 3, Black Sails gave us one hell of a sword fight - and one awesomely great curveball in the form of Jack refusing to give up the money in an attempt to sink Woodes' entire plan to comfortably conquer Nassau.

You know a show is good when a sweet dramatic twist like that - one that feels earned and grounded - can make your blood rise even more than a big action scene. Because this episode had both, but it was Jack's crowning moment, and his coded letter to Anne, that made me audibly "yip." I just loved that part so much. Last week, I rolled my eyes a bit at Jack's decision to return for his pardon. Knowing, as we all did, that he'd get nabbed almost immediately. But this made that "mistake" worth it. Jack is still very much after making a name for himself. But now it's as the man who sinks Woodes' entire plot and gives birth to the second pirate regime.

Ubisoft's The Division Is Ditching Microtransactions

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

In an extremely surprising move, Ubisoft has announced that its third-person shooter The Division is nixing microtransactions.

Community manager Natchai Stappers advised a fan inquiring as to the nature of The Division beta's "Phoenix Credits," which it seems will be available only through in-game play exclusively:

What the "Phoenix Credit" system is, exactly, wasn't explained further, with Stappers commenting that Ubisoft is going to detail it further at a later date. Originally Ubisoft managing director David Polfeldt had commented that the game would "definitely" feature microtransactions, but since creative director Magnus Jansen struck that down in January, it appeard the lack of microtransactions would be official. There will be expansion packs in the future, but no microtransactions.

Now, I've heard legends about online multiplayer shooters where there aren't microtransactions, packs to buy, or anything like that, but I've not seen them with my own two eyes. Like a movie trailer without clichés, I'm more inclined to believe they just don't exist in this era.

I hear tell that, like games of old, you can play them without others buying souped-up weapons and rocketing their way to the top. I can't confirm this just yet and I don't want to say it's true, but it sounds absolutely wonderful (I'm joking, before anyone actually thinks I've never played a game like that, this is hyperbole).

Ubisoft Finds Itself Fighting Off A Hostile Takeover By Way of Vivendi

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

I'm interrupting my weekend coverage of waifus and Nintendo news to bring you something with a little more business sense. I know, crazy.

It seems as though Ubisoft is being targeted by French conglomerate Vivendi, and that is a very strange sentence to type. The solution? Canadian government (by way of prime minister Justin Trudeau) as well as other investors to stave off the takeover.

According to various sources, it appears that Vivendi is pursuing Ubisoft shares to earn more and more influence over the company, since Vivendi has been gunning for a stake in Ubisoft ever since last fall, when it purchased 7.36m shares of the company for $161 million. Not too long after that Vivendi increased its stake in the company to 10.39 per cent, eyeing mobile game company Gameloft in the process.

Ubisoft head Yves Guillemot has called these moves "unsolicited and unwelcome," and thus the company is fighting back by reaching out to Trudeau and additional investors who are pledging support. According to Ubisoft, the company's employees would be far better off at Ubisoft under Ubisoft's control, as reported by Eurogamer.

Obviously it sounds as though the employees would be better off at a company that's scrambling to protect itself from a group that's looking to take over another company by way of brute force, but only time will tell as to what's going to end up happening. It's a curious situation, to say the least.

Nintendo Lowers Its Annual Profit Outlook In Response To Weak Sales

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Nintendo has cut its expected operating profit for this fiscal year after weaker-than-expected sales reared their heads.

The company is now expecting 33 billion yen, which roughly translates to ~$293 million in profit for its current fiscal year, slashed down from an expected 50 billion yen. The operating profit numbers weren't the only ones to decline either, with the net profit forecast down from 35 billion yen as well.

Nintendo still has the NX up its sleeve, as well as Pokemon Sun and Moon, releasing later this year during the holiday season. Perhaps this will bolster the weakened sales, though it seems the company has been struggling and will continue to struggle despite its many attempts to target diehard Nintendo fans with special editions, re-releases, and amiibo figures.

MangaGamer is Bringing Heart of Crown PC To The Masses

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Digitizing card games is probably the best thing you can do if you want it to flourish. It basically ensures anyone who doesn't have the time (or friends) to play the physical version can get in on the fun. I don't play a lot of Hearthstone, but it's the perfect model for a card game, and it works excellently.

That's why I'm so excited about Heart of Crown PC, a digital adaptation of the physical Heart of Crown card game. That, and my soft spot for the various waifus. The game is being enhanced with artwork from FlipFlops (creators of Everyday Tales of a Cat God) as well as the artists for Etrian Odyssey II.

The PC version is set to include special expansions from the game's official Kickstarter, as well as campaign, free, and ranked play. MangaGamer will be handling PC localization, while Japanime Games focused on localization of the physical game. If you're interested in checking the game out, it's available on Steam Greenlight right now and is quivering at the mere thought of your lending a vote its way.

The Expanse: Season 1 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for The Expanse: Season 1 follow.

Ever since shows like Battlestar Galactica and Stargate: Universe left the airwaves there has been a void of quality space based science fiction entertainment. The Expanse, based on the series of book series from Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, is the science fiction space opera TV Series that we’ve been waiting for.

For most of the season The Expanse feels like two separate shows in one. There is the hard boiled detective story featuring Thomas Jane as Josephus Miller, a street smart agent of Star Helix Security on Ceres station, who is definitely a little rough around the edges but his heart is in the right place. Then we have the story of Jim Holden and the surviving crew of the Canterbury, who find themselves the unwitting pawns in an interplanetary conspiracy. Both narratives are linked from the start and part of the fun is watching both Miller and Holden work both sides of a shared mystery from two completely different angles.

Daredevil: Season 2 Premiere Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This is an advance review of the first episode of Daredevil: Season 2, before Netflix debuts the entire season on March 18th. There will be some basic plot points discussed, but no major twists/spoilers revealed.

Sure, there's a somewhat wince-worthy moment in Daredevil's Season 2 premiere where a character says the egregiously trailer-ready line, "Hell's Kitchen's about to explode." But he's not wrong.

Things heat up very quickly in the show's highly-anticipated first episode back, as not only is there a heat wave sucking the figurative life out of New Yorkers, but there's a one-man army in town. Taking the very literal lives of criminals.

Yes, The Punisher's officially arrived and the premiere episode gets right into it. A very strong start to what looks to be an action-packed, drama-filled season of excitement. In the wake of Wilson Fisk's arrested, several gangs have tried to muscle in and fill the void. The Cartel. Bikers. The Irish mob. Nature abhors a vacuum. There's territory to claim. And that idea alone makes for a good starting point. The trouble is that Matt Murdock and friends aren't dealing with the new villains in town. They're dealing with the new "hero." A singularly-focused, shadowy mercenary who's bent on exterminating anyone trying to move in on Fisk's turf.

Devil Daggers Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Devil Daggers is a nightmare that I keep coming back to. It’s demanding and frightening – an intensely difficult first-person arena shooter set in some forgotten circle of hell, where survival happens only a handful of seconds at a time and death is constantly looming over your shoulder. But it’s also exhilarating, a frantic high-score chaser that buries hours of rewarding playtime deep within its punishing core for only the most determined players to claw out.

Devil Daggers grounds itself in the look and feel of old-school PC shooters of the ‘90s like DOOM and Quake, then strips the experience down into its purest elements and drops you in without explanation. There are no weapons to pick up, no armor, and besides collectible crystals that power up your dagger shots in tiers, there are no items whatsoever. There are no stats to increase and no levels to beat, either. It’s just you, the daggers that inexplicably fire from your outstretched fingers, and an endless legion of hellspawn battling it out in a dark arena for as long as your skill can carry you, which probably won’t be that long.

Fuller House: Season 1 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

If you loved Full House, then you might be surprised when you crack open the first episode of Netflix's sequel series Fuller House. The pilot's reliance on nostalgia is actually where the new show stumbles, whereas the series begins to work when Fuller House looks forward instead of back -- though structurally the show remains the same as its predecessor.

Fuller House picks up about 20 years after the end of Full House, with Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) ready to move out of his family home that he had been sharing with his newly widowed daughter D.J. (Candice Cameron Bure). Ultimately he decides to leave the house to D.J. to give her a place to raise her three sons: Jackson (Michael Campion), Max (Elias Harger) and baby Tommy (Dashiell and Fox Messitt).

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Released more than 15 years ago, the original Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon won four Academy Awards and was nominated for six more (including Best Picture and Best Director). To suggest that it was popular and well-received is greatly underselling it. This belated sequel, now available on Netflix and IMAX screens, will not have the same problem.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny is directed by Yuen Woo-Ping and picks up 18 years after the original ended. As Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh, reprising her role) explains in a voiceover, the Green Destiny has been thought lost but is simply hidden in Peking. Sir Te from the original film has just died and Shu Lien has opted to return to Peking to pay her respects. Or, perhaps she is returning to Peking to protect the Green Destiny from evil, or perhaps both. It is rather unclear.

Drew Barrymore Is Having A Pokemon Party and Didn't Invite Me

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

When you think about Pokemon, what celebrity immediately comes to mind? If you said Drew Barrymore, wow! Me too, totally.

Actually, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but that's beside the point. It looks like Barrymore is hosting her own elite Pokemon event to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary at Hollywood Hills' Sunset Tower penthouse tomorrow.

A select number of guests (bloggers, social media influencers, and more) will be hanging out with Drew to check out Pokemon nail art, gift bags, and more. Pikachu will be there too, presumably for plenty of photo-ops.

Apparently Drew is interested in the way Pokemon handles its branding:

"I'm immersed in branding and brand expansion every day with my own companies and I think what Pokemon has done here is so smart and such a perfect way to expand their footprint," which is probably celebritese in this case for "I'm being paid a lot of money to endorse this."

Or something. I'm just salty because I want to go to a Hollywood Pokemon party.

Opinion: The Price of the Oculus Rift is Too Low (HTC Vive Might Be Just Right)

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Oculus Rift became available for preorders in January and the ensuing Internet kerfuffle about the price of the first generation Virtual Reality Head Mounted Displays deserves further analysis. I believe that Oculus Rift is priced too low.

I was able to get my hands on both VR HMD offerings from Oculus and HTC at CES in January, and I no longer believe that the Oculus Rift is better than the HTC Vive. I still believe that the Oculus Rift offers a fine experience, but I believe the HTC Vive will be a more premium virtual reality experience after giving an objective look at the features of both devices. HTC and Valve announced pricing for the Vive last weekend, and it came in lower than my expectation of $1000 or higher. I disagree with the many gamers and journalists who claim that the $799 price tag for the HTC Vive is absurdly high for a device that still requires a computer to run it.

I have provided 5 reasons that explain higher price points for first generation Virtual Reality Head Mounted Displays:

Virtual Reality Early Adopters

First generations of groundbreaking consumer electronics products tend to be priced at a premium. Why should VR HMDs be the exception to this rule? A Tesla Model S cost over $90,000 and the Tesla Roadster cost even more than that when it was released. Apple's original iPhone cost the same amount as the Oculus Rift, and that was after an AT&T subsidy. Innovative products need the support of early adopters to make sure the company will keep making new iterations. It is this tax on early adopters by a company that can help foster more innovation and risk taking in a product category.

The Cost of a Computer

I have yet to build my Virtual Reality desktop, but I will assure you it is not going to have the minimum specifications to run the Oculus Rift. Gamers love building hardcore PCs with liquid cooled CPUs and all sorts of high speed RAM and SSDs. None of this is cheap. PC hobbyists spend thousands of dollars building and upgrading their rigs. $600 could get you a pretty good video card, or an Oculus Rift. Both HMDs will cost more than a gaming console, but I believe it is more fair to compare their price to the cost of the higher end PCs required to run VR.

Full Room Experience

The small fraction of people who can dedicate a room in their home to Full Room Virtual Reality leads me to believe that this will be a much smaller market at first than it is being marketed. The best HTC Vive demos are done in a 10x10 foot square. What percentage of gamers can dedicate that kind of space to a device? This is just another reason why I think the VR HMDs should command a higher launch price. If you can afford and are willing to dedicate a room in your home to VR, you most likely are willing to pay a higher premium to be an early adopter of a VR HMD.

Head Mounted Display

I'm talking about a Head Mounted Display. Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are both head mounted displays, and I believe it is fair to compare them in price to other displays for PC. It costs between $500-$1500 to pick up a 4K resolution monitor, depending on features and size. Is $599 or $799 really that absurd of a price for a head mounted virtual reality display when other displays that just sit on your desk cost more?

If VR Fails This Time...

Virtual Reality failed miserably in the 1990s for a few reasons. The costs of the devices were prohibitive and the overall experience was very limited by technology at the time. We now haver much faster GPUs, computers and smartphones that can support a much more immersive VR experience with high quality graphics and low persistence screens. VR can not afford to fail again, and the premium attached to this launch cycle of these HMDs can increase the likelihood that there will at least be a next generation of this product category. Consumers of these early VR HMDs can help foster the future of VR much like the early adopters of Tesla vehicles have helped lay the groundwork for the future less expensive electric vehicles.

This article started with a claim that the Oculus Rift is priced too low. I believe that the lack of a front facing camera and less advanced sensors (two things that the HTC Vive feature) are deal breakers for many early adopters. Oculus had plenty of feedback and time to implement these features, but have instead focused on locking down exclusive software and experiences for the Rift. Oculus Rift felt like an antiquated device after experiencing the latest iteration of the HTC Vive at CES. I am not saying that I think the Oculus Rift is a bad device, but that the HTC Vive provides a more complete VR hardware solution at launch. Oculus won't be able to ship their next generation Oculus Touch controllers at launch, while the HTC Vive will have theirs included in the $799. We still don't know the price of Oculus touch, so this price comparison of $599 to $799 is not even apples to apples. Many Shackers have asked me which HMD I would recommend if they could only buy one virtual reality head mounted display. My answer is two fold. If you want the best hardware out of the box at launch, buy the HTC Vive. If you want the best software lineup at launch, buy the Oculus Rift. It is sad that Oculus didn't take a more serious look at the competition because this answer would have been Oculus Rift if they had added some of the key hardware features that come with the HTC Vive. Early adopters would gladly pay whatever increased price at launch if the Oculus Rift came with a front-facing camera and improved sensors. At the $599 price point, Oculus already priced out a large segment of consumers. The $799 price point of the HTC Vive with the Valve controllers is just not that much more expensive given the improved VR experience. Oculus has made a mistake in my opinion, but they still can redeem themselves by offering a robust software and content lineup. It remains to be seen how Valve will support HTC Vive on the software front, so Oculus may enjoy a lead at first on that front.

HTC Vive is available for presale on Sunday February 29, and I will gladly pay the $200 premium to the Oculus Rift (which I have also preordered). This is a decision for consumers to make individually, and the companies have told me that there is no animosity. Oculus, HTC, and Valve all want VR to succeed. At the end of the day, many consumers can't afford to purchase both devices at launch and the decision will be a tough one. If you look at the hardware by itself, I feel that the HTC Vive is the better option.
