The Big Bang Theory: "The Celebration Experimentation" Review

The Big Bang Theory hit the 200-episode mark this week, which is certainly a milestone worth celebrating. But with this season already working its way through Leonard and Penny’s marriage, Sheldon and Amy consummating their relationship and Bernadette announcing her pregnancy, there aren’t any big moments with which to mark the occasion. So that left the show to do what it does pretty much every week - treat Sheldon as the bright star around which everyone else orbits.

This series has been host to many Sheldon-centric episodes, both good and bad. Generally, the very best ones (even as recently as December’s “The Opening Night Excitation”) are those that revolve around the infamously self-absorbed Sheldon learning to appreciate the people in his life and the impact they’ve had on him. There was a bit of that here, but more often the emphasis was on other characters telling Sheldon how important he is to them. The writers basically used that endless round of speechifying to acknowledge the show’s long lifespan and how much the world adores Sheldon Cooper. It started to feel a bit hollow and self-congratulatory by the end.
