If readers needed further proof of just how dire the situation has grown in "The Darkseid War," Justice League #48 sees the team form a reluctant alliance with the Crime Syndicate. The fact that the villains of Forever Evil have now become the underdogs speaks to the massive scope and danger of this storyline. Issue #48 delivers plenty more superhero spectacle as it maneuvers The Darkseid War closer to the grand finale.
Geoff Johns has already been juggling a huge cast with this storyline. Adding characters like Ultraman, Superwoman and Owlman to the mix could cause the entire ship to tip over and sink. But somehow Johns finds room for just about everyone to shine in this chapter. Whether it's Ultraman's Kryptonite craving, Power Ring struggling against the influence of Volthoom, Flash resisting the effects of the Black Racer or Hal Jordan leading the charge against Mobius, this issue is crammed with memorable moments. Through it all, Wonder Woman's narration keeps her front-and-center and reminds the reader what the stakes of this battle truly are.
