This review contains full spoilers for The Magicians' premiere, as well as spoiler-free thoughts on the next three episodes of Season 2. We won't be doing regular reviews of Season 2, but will check in time to time with thoughts on big episodes. Enjoy!
The Magicians is always surprising. And its Season 2 premiere, picking up on one of the most extreme cliffhangers to ever end a season -- aka killing off the majority of its main characters -- continues that trend by undoing those dramatic, how-will-they-come-back-from-this deaths almost immediately.
From there on out, The Magicians continues to venture into unpredictability. Not only is The Beast not dead, but he also is proving to be an unlikely ally for Julia. Quentin, Eliot, Margo and Alice become kings and queens of Fillory, but need to leave their new kingdom and head back to Brakebills in order to defeat The Beast. And poor Penny isn't having much luck with his hands.
