Need for Speed: Most Wanted comes out of the EA Origin On The House garage

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Before the former Criterion decided to get into the world of destructible golf, the studio said goodbye to the world of Burnout-style racing with one last joyride. Released in 2012, Need for Speed: Most Wanted was the last game of the series to officially release under the Criterion banner. Now it's a part of EA Origin's On The House lineup for a limited time.

From our original review back in 2012, Most Wanted attempts to maintain the Burnout-style atmosphere, but focuses largely on a multiplayer experience. Before going any further, it should be noted that online servers for this game are still active, which should be a relief to anyone familiar with EA's penchant for pulling the plug on its online games. Multiplayer matches and asynchronous events fill the city of Fairhaven, giving players plenty to do.

As mentioned, this was basically the last hurrah for Criterion before NFS was officially handed off to Ghost Games and the studio's founders moved on to form its own studio. Anyone looking to get in on this freebie action while it's up can find Need for Speed: Most Wanted over on Origin.
