24: Legacy Series Premiere Review

Without Jack Bauer, it’s going to be a long day.

24 was a special show. At first glance the real-time format may seem like the series standout, but what kept fans coming back season after season was the strength of our characters and the reflection of ourselves at the time it debuted. Let’s not forget that the original 24 came out a mere two months after 9/11, a time when the world seemed far scarier than it ever had to many. In a lot of ways we needed a show like 24; a series where a middle-aged, weathered father and husband could save the world from the evils of the outside. It struck a chord.

I’ve been genuinely excited for the new sequel/spinoff series, 24: Legacy, despite the fact I knew it would be an uphill battle and difficult to recreate the magic of the original - while also adding enough to the reboot to warrant the effort. While 24: Legacy does not hit those marks yet, after seeing three episodes the existing pieces feel reminiscent of the original.
