American Horror Story: Cult Finale Review

Cult wrapped up its twisty, turny season rather basically with "Great Again" - in which Kai, even with all his initial complexities and intriguing ideas about controlling people through fear, was reduced to a one-note misogynistic tool screaming hack Spencer's Gifts slogans before getting shot in the head.

Beginning last week, in "Charles (Manson) in Charge," the element of the show that involved us not being able to trust what we'd been watching vanished in place of a somewhat dull revenge scheme that needed Kai to lose all of his wits, and anything that made him interesting really, in favor of a rabid anti-woman ideology  - that for a while he'd used as a cover but now had just fully embraced. Even though, in flashbacks, we saw that that's really how he was all along. Here we were, at the end of the season, with two or three different versions of Kai that didn't line up in the least.
