Wonder Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

On the surface, Wonder has all the makings of a Hallmark Channel film of the week, and if it weren’t for its cast of recognizable movie stars and character actors, it’d be easy to mistake it for one. But just like with his last film, the incredible 2012 coming-of-age story The Perks of Being a Wallflower, co-writer and director Stephen Chbosky has taken Wonder’s transparent premise and themes and infused it with more emotion and depth than anyone might have expected.

With two directorial outings under his belt now, it’s clear that part of Chbosky’s success comes from his clear desire to only tell stories about compassion and empathy. In a similar way that Wallflower was all about how two high school seniors managed to be the heroes that the film’s protagonist - a traumatized and awkward freshman boy - needed in order to break out of his shell, the characters in Wonder grow to be more in tune with the emotions of those around them.
