There are good movies, there are bad movies, there are awful movies, and then there’s The Room, a movie so mind-explodingly incompetent that it feels like it shouldn’t exist. James Franco’s new film The Disaster Artist reveals the strange but (apparently) true story of how the worst movie ever made actually got made, and it’s an unusually heartwarming ode to outsider art.
Dave Franco stars as Greg Sestero, a struggling actor who can’t seem to break out of his shell. James Franco co-stars as Tommy Wiseau, another struggling actor who seems to have broken out of his shell by force, and with a chainsaw. What Sestero lacks in confidence, Wiseau compensates for with weird bravado, and together they embark on a journey to Los Angeles, where Wiseau - a mysterious millionaire with an unplaceable accent - already owns an apartment. He just never had anyone to move in with before.
