Berserk Review

Beserk continued to dissect the meaning of good and evil this week as Farnese learned more about Mozgus and his fanatics, Nina tried to initiate a customer into a pagan cult, and Guts ran into an old ally.

"A Nighttime Beast: Burning at the Stake" was certainly one of the wildest episodes of Berserk to date. There were massive orgies, obsessive-compulsive face planting, spooky demon children running around, and people getting their faces bitten off.  Yet what made the episode so interesting wasn't the the over-the-top antics, but rather the message behind them: things are rarely what they appear to be.

Take the scene in the Tower of Conviction. I fully expected to see religious fanatics gleefully disposing of heretics, while a hot-and-bothered Farnese looked on. Instead, a guilty Farnese struggled to understand her sadistic streak while learning more about Mozgus' underlings.
