Star Wars: Darth Vader #24 Review

One of the greatest challenges facing the new Disney-fied Star Wars franchise comes with finding ways to integrate the eternally beloved Original Trilogy with the much less loved Prequel Trilogy. Are the Prequels better left forgotten now that we have a new wealth of movies, TV shows and comics to look forward to? Like it or not, the Prequels exist. Darth Vader was a whiny kid named Anakin Skywalker before he was a Dark Lord of the Sith. And as we've seen from this series in general and this issue in particular, it is possible to effectively blend those two distinct eras of the Star Wars franchise.

Darth Vader #24 is the penultimate chapter of the series, and it largely unfolds inside Vader's tortured mind as he finds himself deactivated and awaiting death at Cylo's hand. Cue visitations from the three ghosts of Vader's past - Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padme Amidala and Anakin himself. Over the course of the issue, Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca revisit several formative moments from Episode III and force Vader to confront the man he once was.
