When a story runs over thirty some-odd issues, it can be easy to forget how things started in the first place. It’s with that in mind that Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ Saga returns from its latest hiatus, reuniting families even as it reignites and reintroduces the events that split them up.
First things first – Hazel and her family are together again! Yay! After months of star-crossed searching, it’s good to see our protagonists made whole. Of course, whole is far from safe when it comes to Saga, and it’s not long before danger rears its familiar face. And it is familiar. With many long running threads tied off or chopped down last arc, Vaughan returns to the first bit of conflict ever introduced – the war between Wreath and Landfall. He does so in a way that has real world implications. Marko, Alana and the rest, in need of power for their ship, are forced into a collision course with Phang, a nearby fuel-rich comet. It also happens to be a major setting for the ongoing war, with both sides battling for control over its vast resources.
