Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
The Strain's Season 2 finale was a significant game-changer. By the end, the elusive Occido Lumen had been located and Nora died in a failed attempt to prevent young Zach from being taken by the strigoi. One might think these twists would serve as catalysts for a newer, more exciting status quo in Season 3. But The Strain rarely ever seems in a hurry to escalate its conflicts. For better or for worse, Season 3's premiere episode sees the show trucking along much as it always has.
Right away, the only obvious change to the status quo is that our heroes are more divided than before. Eph (Corey Stall) is mourning the death of Nora and the loss of his son. Predictably, he's dividing his time between developing his anti-strigoi bio-weapon and drowning himself in liquor. Setrakian (David Bradley) and Mr. Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones) are busy deciphering their new prize, with the latter itching to get back out and rejoin the fight. Fet (Kevin Durand) is now spending his time conferring with Councilwoman Feraldo (Samantha Mathis) and guiding the military in their quarantine efforts. Dutch (Ruda Getmintas) is MIA in this episode, but theoretically it's only a matter of time before the writers cook up some inane new subplot for her.
