In the grand tradition of books like Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe and Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, now Spawn is suiting up and laying waste to all his superhero rivals. That's the pitch, anyway. In truth, this comic is much more akin to 2014's Harley Quinn Invades Comic-Con International: San Diego #1, both in terms of the premise and in the way the script pokes fun at the comic book industry. Unfortunately, that approach morphs what could have been a simple, fun little romp into some more troubling.
Basically, this issue follows a cartoonish, pint-sized version of Al Simmons as he guns down and stabs dozens of cosplayers at SDCC in the pursuit of fame and glory. Theoretically, that's how writer Todd McFarlane and artist JJ Kirby are able to get away with including characters like Deadpool, Hulk and Venom in the book (by name, no less) in the first place. Spawn isn't actually fighting Deadpool, just a nerd in a badly sewn costume.
