Welcome to Word Up Wednesday!
In a goofily frustrating, yet also unexpectedly moving, episode, the Mr. Robot side of Elliot's mind transformed into a warm and protectively paternal figure - one that, to date, most mirrored Elliot's real father.
Mr. Robot's methods though? His way of "taking the beating" for Elliot and shuffling the Elliot part of the brain into a bubble for safe keeping? A whacky and disturbing '80s sitcom world where all current elements of tragedy were treated to a grating laugh track. A zany trip into Natural Born Killers homage territory - with a few echoes even of Too Many Cooks thrown in. The "Awww shucks" appeal of family TV comedies mixed with the dark topics of abuse, death, murder, and mental illness. And it went on for a while. Perhaps a bit too long, really (15 minutes!). But, ultimately, there was a method to the madness.
