Debuting Friday, September 16th is HBO's High Maintenance - a polished, poetic and offbeat slice-of-life series that features separate stories of Brooklyn residents thematically stitched together by the bearded pot delivery guy whose job it is to, basically, interact with people from all walks of life.
Created, written, and directed by Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair - and featuring Sinclair as the unnamed weed distributor - High Maintenance began as a Vimeo webseries (you can watch the original episodes here), before getting picked up by HBO. And its look is distinct enough, its stories strong enough, to make it feel right at home on the pay-channel, deftly walking the line between dark and quirky. It's unassuming but also very powerful at times.
