Sully Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Every now and then a film comes along where everything fits and everything works so seemingly effortlessly that it just feels right. Sully is one of those films and everything about it says class.

Clint Eastwood directs this love letter to New York that is based on real events and the book, Highest Duty, written by the film’s titular hero, Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger. In case you don’t know what happened, on January 15, 2009, Sullenberger became a hero after gliding his irreparably damaged plane along the water in the Hudson River, saving all of the flight’s 155 crew and passengers.

This isn’t just about what happened on that day. The film is also about the doubt cast on the decision made by a man to do something no one had ever done before and under extreme and unique conditions. Sully is also about the way we are quick to discredit the things we can’t comprehend, the things that we simply don’t want to understand and the things we can’t take at face value because they don’t fit our preconceptions. It’s about us as much as it is about the people who are in it.
