The Walking Dead #158 marks the second chapter of "The Whisperer War," and already the conflict has grown much more dire for our heroes. This issue solidifies the notion that this isn't merely another run-of-the-mill conflict for Rick and the gang, but one that promises to upset the status quo in a major way.
This issue is certainly among the most violent and action-packed in recent memory. Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard craft a very epic, bloody first clash between Alexandria's defenders and the Whisperer army. Right away, it becomes clear that the Whisperers are unlike any enemy our heroes have faced before. They're crafty, perfectly willing and able to use zombies as weapons in their fight. There's an impressive scope to the carnage in this issue, but also a real emotional weight. Seeing Dwight and his men fight a losing battle and literally become boxed in by a wall of corpses gives this conflict a very Game of Thrones-esque vibe.
