Whatever your opinion on Peter Parker's status quo, Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott deserves plenty of credit for pushing the hero in a dramatically new direction over the past few years. But it does beg the question of whether a Peter Parker who runs his own multinational corporation and bankrolls the Avengers can still retain the everyman quality that's at the essence of Spider-Man's appeal. Time will ultimately be the judge there. But for now, Marvel has a new series aimed squarely at readers who miss the humbler, simpler days of the Spider-Man franchise. Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #1 reads like a comforting return to a bygone era, but one with enough unique wrinkles that it doesn't simple coast by on nostalgia.
