Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
Supergirl had a lot of ground to cover this week, as “Medusa” served as both the mid-season finale and, ostensibly, the first part of the four-night Invasion crossover. As expected, the episode barely devoted any time to setting up Kara’s team-up with Flash and the gang, but it did offer a satisfying cap to the first half of Season 2.
I’ll get the Invasion setup out of the way first. Past cast and crew interviews have made it pretty clear that the “four night crossover” The CW has been aggressively advertising is really just three nights with a tiny bit of connective tissue in Supergirl itself. That was exactly what “Medusa” delivered, no more and no less. I was glad to see the episode build towards the debut of Barry and Cisco rather than just spring it on Kara apropos of nothing, but otherwise their brief appearance unfolded exactly as expected. I can definitely see some viewers feeling misled by The CW’s marketing, especially if they don’t normally tune in to Supergirl, but it’s not as if we have to wait much longer for the real fun to begin.
