Note: this is a mostly spoiler-free advance review of Shooter, though I will discuss basic plot details revealed in the trailer. This episode will premiere on USA on Tuesday, November 15 at 10pm EST.
Though a remake of the 2007 film of the same name, USA's new limited series, Shooter, also comes across as an attempt to tap into the massive success of 2013's American Sniper. But as both films starred Mark Wahlberg as an All-American sniper hero (one real and one fictional), maybe that comparison is inevitable. Shooter's premiere episode is very reminiscent of the film in that it's a slickly designed action thriller without much to offer in the way of political commentary or depth.
