DC's Legends of Tomorrow: "Compromised" Review

This new season started off very strong, but lost some momentum in the aftermath of “Justice Society of America.” Since then the Legends have simply bounced from one time period to the next, without much in the way of a driving, overarching narrative. But that changed in a big way this week. Between the ‘80s setting, the partial return of the JSA and a greater focus on Damien Darhk and Eobard Thawne, there was plenty to enjoy in “Compromised.”

From the very first shot of Darhk decked out in full Miami Vice regalia, it was clear the entire cast and crew were having fun with the ‘80s setting. This episode did a great job of celebrating the era, whether it was the fashion, the soundtrack or even that faux-retro Channel 52 news broadcast. Moreover, the setting tied in nicely with the ongoing Darhk/Thawne conspiracy. The idea that Darhk would want to worm his way into the Reagan administration and get his hands on some spare nuclear warheads very much fits his modus operandi. And now the season has another mystery to unravel, as the two villains are busy gathering artifacts for some mysterious purpose.
