Warning: Full spoilers for The Strain's third season below.
Even with three novels to draw from as source material, it often seems as though FX's adaptation of The Strain would have been better-suited to a limited series format. The conflict has unfolded over the course of a few weeks, and too often The Strain seems prone to getting trapped on pointless tangents rather than furthering the conflict between its human heroes and the bloodthirsty strigoi. Season 3 stood out because, for once, the show opted for a leaner, meaner approach. With less filler and more emphasis on raising the stakes in humanity's fight for survival, Season 3 proved what this show is capable of when executed properly.
