The Unworthy Thor #5 is notable not just for wrapping up this particular leg of Jason Aaron's Thor saga, but because it finally answers one of the most burning mysteries in the Marvel Universe. After three years of build-up, the revelations in this issue may not completely satisfy readers. However, in terms of furthering the central themes of Aaron's Thor run, this mini-series has certainly delivered.
Even as this issue wraps up Thor's confrontation with The Collector and the minions of Thanos, the focus remains on exploring the concept of worthiness. What makes a god truly worthy of their title? Why is Thor no longer worthy to wield the power he once did? Can he truly recapture his worthiness by claiming a new hammer, or is there a different path ahead of him? The reveal of just what Nick Fury said to Thor all those months ago may seem disappointingly simple and straightforward, but there was never likely going to be an answer that truly lived up to the hype. What matters is that it ties in nicely with the greater themes and conflicts of the series and goes a long way towards illustrating where Thor's head is at these days. Despite the raw fury displayed on the battlefield, Aaron keeps the focus in this issue very intimate.
