Star-Lord #1 Review

The Guardians of the Galaxy didn't fare too well in Civil War II, losing their ship and basically becoming stranded on Earth. That new status quo forms the backbone of Brian Bendis' final arc on the main GotG series, and it's also the basis of the relaunched Star-Lord comic. Writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Kris Anka immediately gel as they begin exploring this latest (and most pathetic) chapter in Peter Quill's spacefaring career.

Zdarsky and Anka lean heavily on the notion of Peter as an unloved, little respected hero. Between being marooned on Earth, breaking up with Kitty Pryde and losing his position as Emperor of Spartax, Peter has pretty much ruined every facet of life recently. All of that fuels an enjoyable first issue as Peter struggles to acclimate to his new surroundings.
