Suicide Squad #8 Review

Suicide Squad finally wraps up the "Black Vault" story arc with this issue. The end might have come sooner if it weren't for the odd structure of these eight issues, but then we probably wouldn't have seen Jim Lee draw the whole thing. This final chapter has its problems, but it looks great and ends the conflict on a fun, raucous note.

Writer Rob Williams takes the opportunity to get a little sillier with this issue. Even as Harley Quinn is dealing with being sane again, the rest of the team is a basket case of emotions. It's actually Enchantress who stands out the most here. Williams hasn't had a great deal of opportunity to write June Moone's alter ego so far, but he makes up for lost time as he portrays Enchantress as a witch who enjoys using her powers in the most goofy ways and making fun of the puny humans in her midst. It's also interesting seeing the Enchantress/Killer Croc dynamic take a more defined shape. June Moone may be attracted to Croc, but Enchantress doesn't share her feelings. That should be a fun angle to explore down the road, assuming Justice League vs. Suicide Squad allows for many significant character moments like that.
