24: Legacy: "5:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M." Review

That’s one way to end a storyline. For a moment, it seemed like the bridge was safe. For a moment, Jenkins was the hero required. I cheered when Jenkins shot Amira because it was genuinely surprising. You never expect the stormtrooper to actually hit his target. The rest of the season should have focused on Jenkins as he hunts down Jadalla. But Amira had to wake up and destroy the bridge, ending hundreds of innocent lives. Her biggest crime however was robbing us of the Jenkins spin off we so desperately needed.

The bridge scene elevated this episode, no pun intended. In fact everything about Amira’s and Khasan’s thread was well done. It can be difficult to care about the seemly periphery plot threads when the stakes are this high, but they succeeded in getting us interested in this hour’s developments. 24 shows its moments of genius when those side stories shift and become the focal point of the series moving forward. I was first drawn to the “high school” storyline because it was different, and I am happy to say that we were rewarded for our investment all these episodes later. While the explosion lacked the punch of previous 24 catastrophes (looking at you, Nuclear Bomb in season 6) it is always frightening to see a successful attack on any scale.
