Everything about Outlander changed by the end of Season 2, which proved to be a very different type of season for the Starz series compared to Season 1. That was apparent both within the story and in the execution of the shorter, 13-episode installment of the Diana Gabaldon adaptation, as the bulk of the year was spent away from Outlander's core Scotland setting and ended with a twist that pushed the show in a new direction.
Season 2 picked up in France after Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser's (Sam Heughan) departure from Scotland at the end of Season 1. There, they tried to execute Claire's mission statement from the end of the previous season of changing the future of Scotland by changing the past and stopping the Battle of Culloden from ever taking place.
