Reborn #1 Review

I often picture Mark Millar as the comic book creator equivalent of a Pokemon trainer, travelling the land and gathering every A-List artist he can find to complete his collection. Reborn allows Millar to tick off another box on his checklist, as this mini-series pairs him with Batman artist Greg Capullo for an epic fantasy series that explores what happens after death. There's no part of that pitch that doesn't sound enticing, and the comic itself lives up to its promise.

In trademark Millar fashion, Reborn features a high concept made accessible through a summer blockbuster approach. In the Reborn universe, death isn't the end, but merely a stepping point into a new plane of existence where the reincarnated battle ogres and dragons. So it is that Reborn manages to be both a quiet, intimate meditation of humanity's fear of death and an epic sword and sorcery adventure.
