The final reveal that closes The Whole Truth , a courtroom thriller, will fool absolutely no one. The problem isn't just that it feels derivative, but also that it is the only possible answer and so unleashing it as a surprise on the audience is more than a little silly. It is an unfortunate conclusion to an otherwise relatively engrossing ride.
Directed by Courtney Hunt, The Whole Truth features Keanu Reeves as Richard Ramsay, the attorney defending Mike Lassiter (Gabriel Basso) in a murder case. Mike is accused of having murdered his abusive father, Boone (Jim Belushi), as his mother, Loretta (Renée Zellweger), washed her hair in the other room. Since his arrest, Mike has spoken to absolutely no one, including Ramsay, so the lawyer and his new colleague, Janelle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), have no choice but to formulate a defense based upon the evidence they have.
