Much, if not all, of the material in the second episode of Westworld was going to be part of the pilot at one point – in what obviously would have been a mega-sized version. The decision to change this led to some big shifts, including a much bigger focus on Maeve (Thandie Newton) and the introductions of two major characters – Jimmi Simpson’s William and Ben Barnes’ Logan – being held until the second week. However, rather than leading to any sort of disjointed feeling, these changes worked incredibly well. I loved how the pilot was so focused on Dolores and her continuing "loops" in Westworld and now that we’ve had that perspective established, it felt right to now get a more traditional (in terms of storytelling) introduction into the park via two guests and what their experience is like.
